Discover scuba diving in Puerto Galera

Congratulations to Maria Teresa on completing her Discover Scuba Diving course, pictured here with her instructor Rey.

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving course is a great way to find out if you are comfortable using scuba equipment underwater, without having to invest lots of time or money. The DSD can be completed in only a few hours, and you will have done your very first scuba dive!

Your instructor will spend a couple of hours to familiarise you with the scuba equipment, and basic underwater safety skills, before doing a short session in the swimming pool to put that knowledge into practice. After that you and your instructor will do a shore dive, from the beach in front our resort, where you will experience the wonders of Puerto Galera’s underwater world for the very first time. (under close supervision of course)

Should you wish to take your diver training further, the DSD also counts towards the PADI Open Water Course.

A Blast from The Past!

A younger Bob Hudson and Terry O’Dowd!
Our resort manager and dive instructor Terry O’Dowd recently had a visit from a friend of his, Bob Hudson, who he met way back in 1987. Back in the day, Bob was actually Terry’s diving instructor, but hasn’t been diving now for 20 years!

Now the roles are reversed and Bob is back in the water, after doing a refresher course, with Terry as his instructor!

Bob is here with his mate Simon Gray who is experiencing Puerto Galera for the first time, and they’ve been in the water like fishes! They’ve done lots of dives with Terry, and got some cool video on the Alma Jane Wreck, and Bob even decided to do his Nitrox speciality.

What better a way to reunite with old friends than on a Scuba Diving holiday in a tropical paradise?

Bubble Makers and Trouble Makers!

Thanks to the Navarro family who were here on a diving holiday from China! The kids were super-enthusiastic and great fun to have around. Jorge did his Bubblemaker course, Jacobo did the Junior Scuba Diver course, Dad Angel did the Scuba Diver course, and poor little Pablo who is too young to dive assumed his role as the official Trouble maker!

Great fun, we hope to see you guys again!

Congrats to our new Resident Diving Instructor Dennis Frandsen!

From all the staff at Scandi Divers Resort, we’d like to wish Dennis Frandsen a warm “Congratulations” for successfully passing his PADI IDC / IE and becoming a qualified PADI scuba instructor, as well as our newest resident instructor. Well done Dennis, and welcome to the team! Our Danish guests can now choose to have their PADI courses taught to them in their native tongue!

Our other intructor Conan Fagan is off to Ireland for a couple of weeks for his sister’s wedding, and will be resuming his usual schedule when he returns, and Dennis is taking a trip home to Denmark in September, but will be returning in October to his new job. To celebrate Dennis’ qualitfication, and wish Conan a fond farewell, we had a bit of a party for the lads at the Scandi SkyBar, including a delicious BBQ with the amazing catch of the day prepared by our chef Phillip Pangan.

Farewell to Lloyd Rodriguez and his group

From all the staff at Scandi Divers Resort, we’d like to say thanks and farwell to Lloyd Rodriguez and his (large) group who enjoyed a great long-weekend of fun in the sun, and some Scuba Diving training with us.

Lloyd is a Philippines expat living in Canada, and brought his whole family from Canada, and then stopped in Manila on the way to collect his extended family before heading down to Puerto Galera!

The group all did Discover Scuba courses, with instructors Rey Magsino, Edna Brul and assistant instructor Robert Marquez, and Resort Manager/Dive Instructor Terry O’Dowd conducted the Bubblemaker course for Racquel Cincoleon.

We hope you guys had a great time and we all look forward to seeing you again!
