NAUI Scuba Diver / Junior Scuba Diver

Begin your underwater explorations by enrolling in a NAUI Scuba Diver class. This is our entry-level certification course where you will learn the fundamental knowledge and skills to safety dive in open water.

Earning your NAUI Scuba Diver Certification card is an accomplishment for which you will rightfully feel proud and you will be ready to begin a lifetime of underwater adventures and discovering.

During your NAUI Scuba Diver class, you will learn about modern dive equipment, diving sciences, responsible diving practices and the environment. Diving skills will be taught and practiced first in the comfort and convenience of a confined water environment and finally during your open water training dives with your NAUI Instructor.

Experienced Scuba Diver

Divers at least 15 years of age with a minimum of 25 open water scuba dives but who do not have formal certification (such as military, commercial, or scientific divers), and who wish to gain a NAUI diver certification may complete a NAUI Experienced Scuba Diver course designed just for them. This course reviews all the knowledge and skills taught in the NAUI Scuba Diver course, based on the experience and needs of the student. Graduates receive NAUI Scuba Diver certification with all privileges thereof as a NAUI certified diver.

Advanced Scuba Diver/Junior Advanced Scuba Diver

Enroll in a NAUI Advanced Diver Course to explore new dive sites and undertake exclusive activities under the supervision of a NAUI Instructor. This course allows individuals to learn about specialties and diving activities of particular interest. Your confidence and skill as a diver will increase while you experience the excitement of learning more about the underwater world.

During training, students complete a minimum of six open-water dives, including three separate dives for navigation, night or low visibility diving, and deep diving (130 feet/40 meters of maximum depth), plus three additional dives based on your individual preferences and available options.

Get Started

The Advanced Scuba Diver course is for certified divers who desire additional training or orientation to a variety of diving sites and conditions. Divers must be a minimum of 10 years of age, in good health and must be previously certified as a NAUI Scuba Diver or equivalent.

What’s Next?

After becoming a certified NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver, individuals should enroll in a NAUI Master Diver or NAUI Rescue Scuba Diver or NAUI First Aid course to develop additional expertise and comfort in the water.

NAUI Specialty Diver Courses

NAUI training continues far beyond the basics! NAUI Instructors teach a wide range of specialized type of diving ranging from the popular to the esoteric. NAUI Night Diver

If you’re like most divers, you’ll love exploring at night even more than during the daylight. At night the reef comes alive as many of the daylight inhabitants retreat to the safety of dens and ledges while nocturnal creatures take over the reef during the nighttime hours. The NAUI Night Diver course focuses on the specific skills and knowledge needed to increase your enjoyment and minimize the risks of diving at night.

Minimum age for this course is 15 years plus certification as a NAUI Scuba Diver or equivalent. (Junior certification is allowed for ages 10-14.)

NAUI Deep Diver

Does the thought of deep diving fascinate you? If you are at least 18 and have a NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver certification or the equivalent, you can enroll in a Deep Diver course where you’ll gain the knowledge and skills to plan and make enjoyable deep dives while minimizing risks of deep diving.

Although this is not a decompression techniques course, you will learn about decompression procedures including nitrogen narcosis and decompression sickness, and the use of dive computers including avoiding the need for stage decompression. Your course will also include teachings on the purpose, problems, hazards, planning, preparation, equipment, air supplies, personnel, techniques, gas management, emergency procedures, and depth limits for recreational diving. Deep diving is defined as dives made between 60 feet (18 meters) and 130 feet (40 meters).

What’s Next?

Divers who especially enjoy deeper dives will be interested in the full range of NAUI Technical Diving programs that extend the diving range beyond traditional recreational limits of depth and time. NAUI Underwater Photographer

In the NAUI Underwater Photographer course you will be taught the skills, techniques, and tricks of underwater photography including lighting, use of photographic equipment, the fundamentals of photography, underwater camera techniques, and underwater photo problems.

NAUI Underwater Videographer

In the NAUI Underwater Videographer course you will master the skills and knowledge needed to safely enjoy making underwater videos. Your instructor will help you master the camera techniques and underwater camera controls to produce videos to share with family and friends.

NAUI Training Assistant

If you possess the desire to assist in the training of other divers, a NAUI Training Assistant specialty course might be for you. This course will qualify you in the skills and knowledge necessary to perform as a training assistant during NAUI diver training courses overseen by an active-status NAUI Instructor.

As a certified NAUI Training Assistant, you will be qualified to temporarily directly supervise students while an instructor conducts skills with other students; escort students on the surface or on underwater tours; and assist an active-status NAUI Instructor with other tasks, all under the direction of a NAUI Instructor.

As a NAUI Training Assistant, you will learn more about underwater navigation, communications, how to escort and assist divers during an open water training dives and how to assist with problem management during diver training evolutions.

Public Safety Diver

Public Safety Divers are a special breed! Many start as recreational divers, but because of their intense desire to serve their local communities many join local volunteer and paid Public Safety Diver teams to provide emergency, rescue and investigative services to the public.

The NAUI Public Safety Diver program introduces the fundamental skills needed by Public Safety Divers during underwater search, rescue and recovery operations. The NAUI Public Safety Diver course is an entry-level course in public safety diving for current or future members of PSD teams.

Underwater Hunter and Collector

Underwater Ecologist

Underwater Ecologist: Coral Reef

naui underwater ecologist coral reefCoral reefs are primarily found in three major biogeographic regions of the world: The tropical western Atlantic (Caribbean), the Red Sea, and the Indo-Pacific region. Coral colonies are composed of thousands of tiny polyps, each with its own protective skeleton. The Underwater Ecologist (Coral Reef) specialty course focuses on the vertebrates and invertebrates of the complex living reef. This course examines coral zonation, seagrass beds, lagoons, mangroves, and the common reef algae, invertebrates and reef fishes.

Underwater Archaeologist

naui underwater archeologistQualified divers are essential to collect and record archaeological data on submerged cultural resources and often perform invaluable volunteer assistance to accredited archaeologists by assisting during field work. Learn specific skills and knowledge that are helpful for wreck diving activities and provide increased enjoyment when visiting submerged cultural resources. You’ll gain the basic information and skills that are used in underwater archaeological interpretation of wreck and other sites, as well as mapping, sketching, and researching techniques.
