Stairway Foundation Book Drive

Scandi Divers Resort owner David Asmussen and 20 Scuba Diving students from Hong Kong took part in a one and a half hour hike to the Stairway Foundation mountain-top school for underprivileged native children Β in order to donate over 300 books to help improve the kids’ education.

A worthy cause and a spectacular view! Big thanks to all involved πŸ™‚

Scandi Sea Turtles Project

scandi divers resort puerto galera sea turtle

On the night of August 11 a mother green sea turtle came ashore and laid 135 of her eggs next to Scandi Divers front steps. The eggs will hatch after about two months, when the baby turtles will dig themselves out and return to the sea.

We undertook to transfer the eggs to a higher area down the beach at Cataquis Lodge, away from the danger of storm waves. The green sea turtle is an endangered species so we will closely monitor the hatching to ensure all the baby turtles make it safely to the ocean.

Green turtles almost always nest on the same beach used by their mothers, so we wish them all the best and hope to see this family of turtles returning for years to come.

Big La Laguna Bay – Sea Krait Video

Dive instructor and resort manager Terry O’Dowd was out snorkeling on the house reef again and found this beautiful Banded Sea Krait just a meters away from the resort.

We are truly very fortunate to have such amazing creatures so close to us!

Terry was using the headstrap mounted GoPro video camera, which is incredibly easy to use and is available to rent for Scandi Divers guests to shoot their own videos of their underwater experiences here in Puerto Galera.

Congratulations to Ollie Haapanen – Rescue Diver!

Congatulations to Ollie Haapanen from Finland on completing his Rescue Diver Course with Dive Instructor Conan Fagan and Divemaster Dennis Frandsen. Ollie passed his course with flying colours, and his girlfriend Satu was kind enough to volunteer to play the victim πŸ™‚

Happy Birthday Conan!

Our good friend and Dive Instructor Conan Fagan (yup, he’s an Irish lad) recently turned 29, so from all the staff at Scandi Divers Resort, we’d like to thank him for all his hard work and good times, and wish him all the best for the coming year!

In true Irish style the party started of quite civilised, but after a few beers it seemed that the cake was just too good not to be shared forcibly with everyone! A good time was had by all πŸ˜€

Farewell to Andy Pang’s Group from China

diving puerto galera

A big ‘Thank You’ and farewell to Andy Pang and his fantastic group from China who were here to enjoy some quality diving with us, seen here with their guides Rico and Rey.

To celebrate another great dive trip, they threw a party in the Sky Bar on their last night, complete with a fire dancer, and a delicious barbecue dinner prepared by our chef Mark. It was a great night, and the only unhappy participant at the party was Porky the pig (who was delicious!)

Thank you Andy and friends! We look forward to your next trip here πŸ™‚

Scandi Divers & Campbell’s Resort Staff Party in Tagatay

resort puertogalera

To celebrate a good year and reward the staff from Scandi Divers Resort and Campbell’s Beach Resort for all their hard work, the resort owners took the staff on a day excursion to Tagatay.

Tagatay is about halfway between Batangas and Manila. This scenic city, surrounded by mountains and forrests lies along a ridge averaging 2000ft above sea level, overlooking Taal Lake, and the still active Taal Volcano!

The staff enjoyed horse riding, zipline rides, picnicing and souvenier buying, overlooking the spectacular scenery of Lake Taal and the volcano.

We’d like to say thanks again to everyone, and congratulations on a job well done throughout last season!

Next time you stay at one of our resorts, ask our staff about an alternate way back to Manila and go and visit Tagatay yourself. You won’t be disappointed!
